UCC has a long history of success while taking a different approach to the coal industry.
We grew from one small coal company in 1970 to one of the largest exporters of coal from Hampton Roads, Va.
How? We took a different approach.
Others saw the coal safety regulations of the early ‘70s as an obstacle – we saw an opportunity.
Others took short-term profits during the coal boom – we reinvested ours.
Others didn’t diversify – we did.
Then in 1997, we left the coal business entirely.
Now we see a new opportunity. We re-acquired our name, polished it, and we’re off to a great new start.
By the end of our first full year, we had underground, surface and highwall operations in Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky and had acquired and developed recoverable reserves in excess of 165 million tons. By the end of 2006, our second year, we expect to grow our reserves substantially and produce more than 6.5 million clean tons of coal. Without further acquisitions or development, we will be producing at a rate of 7.5 million clean tons on an annualized basis by the end of the year.
Our different approach brings results.
